There is a very good teaching pack on volcanoes at Learn.co.uk

St. Lucia's Soufriere volcano, is a seven-acre crater, the world's only drive-in volcanic crater. It is close to the Pitons which are extinct volcanoes. A walk through the crater takes you past pools of bubbling hot springs which emit sulphur-laden steam.

There do not appear to be any houses on these photographs. Do you have any ideas why?

Hikes into the two amazing volcanoes on St. Lucia that are safe for exploration can be arranged but it is not recommended that tourists go without guides because the paths are hard to find.

(These pages will open into new windows, be sure to close each one when you have finished with it.)

How Stuff Works has a very clear animation to show what happens.

Visit Enchanted Learning Volcanoes page, print out an annotated picture of a volcano, look up words in the volcano dictionary, label up a volcano, take part in various volcanic activities, or do a volcano quiz!

If you want to learn more about volcanoes visit Volcano World. (Go through the kids door for pupils)
