Level 3

Pupils use ICT to save information and to find and use appropriate stored information, following straightforward lines of enquiry. They use ICT to generate, develop, organise and present their work. They share and exchange their ideas with others. They use sequences of instructions to control devices and achieve specific outcomes. They make appropriate choices when using ICT-based models or simulations to help them find things out and solve problems. They describe their use of ICT and its use outside school.

This flow chart currently controls the mimics on the car picture. When the key is out and the door is open the lights should go on and the horn should sound. It is partially correct but does not work exactly as intended or it would be level 4. With the appropriate equipment; buzzers, lights and a green box, the children could make a working model of the car and use this program to programme it.

The next step is to test their procedures  carefully and try to make the working model more accurate. The flow chart would benefit from clearer organisation, calling on sub-routines - if these were in place it would be Level 4.
