Seminar Session One – 13.00 – 13.30 and 15.45 – 16.15
Clipbank - e-teaching - feeding the digital appetite of today's learners
St Gregory the Great School will share their experiences of using Clipbank video resources in the classroom and the benefits they bring to teaching and learning.
Carterton Partnership and the Oxfordshire Learning Platform
The Carterton Partnership is the first in Oxfordshire to use the learning platform to communicate and collaborate across all schools in the partnership. The partnership Extended Services Coordinator and an ICT technician have been instrumental in developing this approach with the help of a RAF Community Liaison Officer. Extended Services information can now be directly communicated to families through school OLP sites. Headteachers, ICT coordinators and Bursars are also using this area to share files and prepare for meetings.
Learning on the Go
An exciting pilot project at Icknield School is providing students who attend courses held at Henley College, the opportunity to use new generation netbook computers connected to the Internet via 3G wireless broadband in a minibus whilst travelling between the school and college – hence “Learning on the go”. This session will look at the initial feedback from the project team.
Seminar Session Two – 13.35 – 14.05 and 16.20 – 16.50
Oxfordshire Learning Platform – Developing Reading (The Blake Primary School, Witney)
Daily reading workshop sessions at the Blake Primary School now include children using texts and questions using discussions on the Oxfordshire Learning Platform. Children access this once or twice every week and have open access at home. Using discussions has allowed all children time to reflect and contribute to questions that we have had time to carefully phrase. Higher order questioning and reflection has been a core focus of this project – the discussion tool allows a record of the whole dialogue – we now hope to integrate this into our APP approach within the school.
Game based learning in the Classroom
Dawn Hallybone is currently the ICT co-ordinator at Oakdale Junior School in Redbridge, a position she has held for 6 years. Dawn teaches a Year 6 class and has been involved in the Borough’s first foray into the world of gaming using the DS consoles. She will be looking at how the school managed to share 35 machines among 340 pupils using the Brain training programme and the effect this had on their learning. Dawn will share her passion for games-based learning in the classroom and how both members of her own staff and teachers from across Redbridge have been inspired to give hand held learning a go. She will also share examples of innovative work from Scotland as well as showing how games on the web can be incorporated into the curriculum. So come along and have a play!
Digital Literacy – Woodstock Primary School
If you would like ideas and practical advice on raising standards, increasing motivation and adding that extra dimension to learning, then “Digital Literacy” could be for you. Anna Poole, Deputy Headteacher at Woodstock Primary School, has been using Digital Literacy in the classroom with teachers and pupils for sometime to develop imagination, creativity and raise standards in writing and speaking and listening. Pupils’ attitudes to writing are more positive, and writing skills they have been developing while using these engaging approaches to literacy, are beginning to be transferred to other areas of their work. The children have been switched on, motivated and interested in their learning and it has a positive impact on children’s motivation and achievement, especially those reluctant boys.
Seminar Session Three – 14.10 – 14.40 and 16.55 – 17.25
The Oxfordshire Learning Platform in Secondary Schools
An Oxfordshire secondary school will give their perspective on the implementation of OLP in their school celebrating some of the successes and what lessons they have learned.
Dartfish TV
An Oxfordshire school that has been using Dartfish tv to produce videos which they edit, publish and integrate into the curriculum, will share their experiences generating video resources that appeal to the You Tube generation.
e-Learning Foundation – Preparing for Home Access
Becta’s Home Access initiative begins nationally this December, with the families of 5 – 19 year olds on low incomes being given the opportunity to apply for a grant to use on a computer and connectivity.
This seminar explores the opportunities for schools to get involved in this huge opportunity – from encouraging families to take up the grants, supporting them to complete the means test, to learning about how schools can aggregate them to generate greater leverage.
A key question is ‘what about everyone else?’ and we’ll be suggesting how schools could build on this to give all students the chance to have a laptop, netbook or PDA, to use to support their learning, whenever and wherever, using a sustainable model of parental voluntary contributions.
Seminar Session Four – 14.45 – 15.15 and 17.30 – 18.00
Sonning Common Primary School Audio Podcasts
In a bid to provide current news and information in a fresh and exciting way and engage children in an aspect of ICT that they had yet to fully experience, Matt Lovegrove, ICT Co-ordinator at Sonning Common Primary School, decided to add an audio podcast section to his school’s website. Creating audio podcasts, either for use in the classroom or for a school website/blog is easy, free, fun and educational. Children involved with the broadcasting learn about the process of reporting and about using ICT for real-life application whilst also having a great time. Learn how to do it by attending this seminar.
Espresso in the Classroom
Deddington Primary will be sharing their experiences of using Espresso in the classroom and also using the recently released home version that allows teachers to access Espresso from the comfort of their own home at no additional cost!
Oxfordshire Learning Platform – Parental Engagement
This session will focus on the challenges and benefits of using the OLP to engage with parents. The government has set schools the target of giving parents online access to data about their child by March 2010 for secondary schools and 2012 for primary schools. This session will show you how this can be achieved now using the OLP.
