The following were used by Martyn Beer of Henry Box School on the History
and ICT Inset Day 2001. Martyn has kindly agreed to make these resources
available to colleagues. These documents were originally held on the OCC
intranet.
**Some of the documents are quite large - you may find it quicker to
save them to your computer and open them from there. To do this, hover
over a link, RIGHT click on the mouse and go to "Save target as". You
can then choose a location for the document and rename it if you wish**
1. Word Processing Task - based on the Battle of Hastings but easily
adaptable. Suitable for teachers looking for a first whole class ICT task
to use. Begins with a sorting task, moves on to categorising sources and
then leads to an extended answer.
2. Word Processing and Publisher Task - based on the Battle of
Naseby. Begins with source comprehension and then looks at bias in the
sources before leading to the production of a biased newspaper account
using Microsoft Publisher. Suitable for beginner to intermediate.
3. Using Microsoft Publisher to produce a revision "interactive spider
diagram"
The example uses topics from Edexel Modern World GCSE Syllabus, USA 1945-80
and Impact of War on Britain 1900-50 but is easily adaptable to topics
of choice. “Interactive spider” shows a range of headings for revision
in the topic and on a mouse click gives summary notes for each area. Can
be put on your school Web site or school intranet and is far simpler than
it sounds and very popular with students for revision.
