Many Oxfordshire schools use some of the 2Simple range of software. Recently 2Simple have introduced a new licensing system – Community Licensing. A Community Licence allows the school to buy a licence for the children who attend the school to use the software at home.  It costs £100 as a basic outlay plus £100 for each hundred pupils, small schools are invited to get in touch for a price. To read more about Community Licensing visit: http://www.2simplehome.com/

2Simple also run a scheme where schools can sell the software to parents to generate an income. The school purchases batches of 5 or 10 software CDs and then is able to sell the licenses to parents for £20 per title retaining the other £5 towards school funds.  Clearly this has a workload implication for already overworked members of staff not wishing to take on further responsibility. A third alternative, The Home Shop, is where parents can buy and download the software straight to the home computer at the same price of £20 but all profit goes directly to the software company without the school gaining any share for school funds.

The ICT Team have had a sneak preview of the latest 2Simple software on the market. We were impressed with the game called Bond Bubble within the set of KS2 Maths Games 1. The maths games are in traditional arcade style, designed to engage children where the high pace of learning will keep them striving to improve.

In the Bond Bubble game users shoot a number to meet its partner number bond thus creating a pre-planned number. Teachers can use the program to create their own number bond sets. To read more visit: http://www.2simple.com/features/maths_intro_black.html

Amongst the latest literacy software titles, developed in conjunction with the London Grid for Learning, only one item, which was based on the Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, stood out to the team.

The illustrations, animations, videos, sound effects, spoken reading and music bring the text to life.  It is exciting and easily accessible to all children because it reads the poem aloud, has interesting illustrations and a glossary.
