As Teachers’ TV celebrates its 1,000th programme Carol Rainbow, Primary ICT Advisory Teacher highlights some additional materials available for use in schools

Now that Teachers’ TV has been running for a while there is plenty to be seen over and above the featured programs. The ICT related video clips that have been used for programs are available at any time from a fully searchable index: http://www.teachers.tv/searchArchive.do.
There are thirteen videos available in the primary index including ICT; these could easily be used in school staff meetings to inspire teachers to try something new.
2D Animation & 3D Animation
|
These programmes take a look at ways in which animation can be incorporated to inspire creativity in the primary curriculum. The schools shown in the video were involved in developing a Creative Learning Project and the resource pack that they created is available. The video firstly focuses on stop animation and shows how children develop the set and resources; the second part is based on a year 6 transfer project. In the 3D movie clip the children plan to create a 3D animation based on the book, "Degas and the Little Dancer". It shows how the children storyboard and create characters out of modelling clay, then film the characters using stop animation. |

Local History – Testaments of Experience & subsequent lesson review
The Year 6 teacher at a Bristol primary school invited five women to talk to her class about their working lives in the tobacco factory. Pupils used digital video whilst interviewing them. The lesson reviewed and explored the success of this lesson and looked at how it could be improved.
The Tudors using ICT & subsequent lesson review
In these video clips the teacher sets his pupils the task of producing a short video clip. Working to the tight deadline of one lesson, each group is asked to research, script and film their own Tudor-style newsreel, which will then be presented to the rest of the class. The review programme discusses the use of technology in history and examines whether the history is improved.
Primary ICT Back on Line
Since its poor OfSTED report in 2002 St Philip's school near Bath has significantly invested in resources and training. This has increased staff confidence in using the equipment and has led to the better use of ICT across the curriculum and throughout the school. In this video clip we visit classrooms to witness how staff are using ICT to enrich their lessons.
This programme demonstrates the strategies that have enabled one school to vastly improve their ICT provision.

Numeracy – Data Handling & Interpreting data
The class in this video builds a frequency table in Excel, then moves on to construct a bar chart from the information. The children do an investigation of the distribution of colours in a jar of sweets to explore the challenge of understanding frequency and interpreting and presenting data. The pupils label and title their charts and discuss the best ways to represent their results.
