Julie Leigh, Co-ordinating Adviser for ICT, shares information on new websites linked with the protection of children on-line
To coincide with the launch of the CEOP Centre, two brand new websites have been created.
A corporate site www.ceop.gov.uk has been designed to keep stakeholders, partners, law enforcement agencies and the wider public informed about the work of the centre. There is also an advice area for parents and carers and, in the future, an area for teachers and educators will be added. In addition, downloads such as screen savers and films will be available.
CEOP has also designed a new site around a pre-existing website domain name - www.thinkuknow.co.uk kindly given to CEOP from the Home Office, this domain has been used over the last three years in public awareness campaigns on internet safety for young people.
The design and content has been re-written and re-designed specifically to appeal to secondary age young people. Its focus is on empowering young people about the risks online and how to take control so they can protect themselves and know how to report if there is a problem. In order to report incidents of child sexual abuse online, the www.thinkuknow.co.uk site links to the reporting form on the CEOP website.
This website is part of a suite of educational resources which will be launched later in the year.
Both websites are linked to - the Virtual Global Taskforce website www.vitualglobaltaskforce.com where young people and adults can report incidences of online child abuse.
