Next, Cathy Flynn, Primary ICT Consultant, introduces another wonderful resource - the i-board.
As more and more Key Stage 1 classes and increasingly Foundation Stage classes
are having interactive whiteboards installed, it is sometimes difficult to find
resources designed specifically to meet the requirements of the Foundation Stage
and Key Stage 1 curriculums. Electronic Blackboard with their i-board product
is one provider that has created resources which can be used across a range
of curriculum areas in both Key Stage 1 and the Foundation Stage. i-board is
a new and growing interactive resource bank of activities that have been developed
in conjunction with teachers.

The resources consist of year group CDs, which then allow access to additional online resources. Electronic Blackboard has already produced a CD for Reception and Year 1. A Year 2 CD is due to be published at the end of May and a nursery CD in July. Each CD ROM contains 8 topic areas. Contained within each topic area there are then 3 or 4 focussed interactive learning activities that meet both Curriculum and ICT learning objectives. |
As an example, on the Reception CD, there are two farm topic areas, farm pictures
and sounds and farm counting, which would link really well with topics on animals
or growing.

On the year 1 CD "Me and Us" provides focussed activities which
could be used linked with the science topic ourselves, history timeline
activities and data handling in maths.

Purchase of the CD's also gives a year's access to additional online resources,
which can be renewed on an annual basis. Included in these online extension
activities are excellent history of transport activities and toys in the past
activities.
Also available as online content are screens which have been developed at the
request of individual teachers and the company are interested in continuing
to create resources at the request of teachers, if they fit with the i-board
brand and are possible to create.
To explore the resources further log on to www.iboard.co.uk where 4 minute trials
of all activities are available.
The current cost of i-board resources for Oxfordshire schools is £44 per
year group CD for a single user licence, £72 for a 5 user licence, £112
for a 10 user licence and £140 for a site licence. All purchases include
1 year's access to online activities.
