Have you thought of using your children's photographs in Clicker?
Here, Liz Hunt, Primary Hands On Support (HOS) Consultant, shares with us some of her ideas.
Give her a ring if you would like to book a session with her.

Clicker is a writing tool that can be used at any Key Stage, provided that the grids are motivating for the pupils concerned. Using digital photographs is a fantastic way of making the grids both curriculum relevant and attractive for the children.
Have you thought of trying one of the following ideas?

  • During a topic about seasons, take young children out in windy weather. Get photographs of the children with their hair and coats blowing in the wind. Load the photos into Clicker and build grids that contain key words or phrases for the children to write about the effects of the wind.
  • Take photographs of children acting out a traditional tale. Load the photos into sequential grids and build up a storyboard for the children containing keywords for them to build up sentences.
  • The children can also use photographs with models (like play people or teddies) to build up a storyboard of a tale they have written themselves.
  • Photographs can be taken of children conducting science experiments. These can be loaded into Clicker along with a choice of phrases for a child to write up their experiment. This is ideal for children who have difficulty in expressing themselves when writing up experiments.

There are, of course, many ways that Clicker can be used in the curriculum. Photographs can be used from any curriculum area and children find seeing themselves or their work on the screen a highly motivating and stimulating experience.

Photographs are loaded into Clicker grids in the same way as other clicker graphics. You will need to navigate to the area on your PC where your photos are stored.
You may well find a version of Clicker in school. Clicker 3 was preloaded onto the RM Windowboxes. Many schools have now upgraded to Clicker 4 and in fact, Clicker 5 will soon be available but the loading of photos is the same in each version.

If you would like further support with using Clicker with the children in your class, you could consider booking in a Clicker lesson as part of your allocation for Hands On Support (HOS). Phone (01865) 428034 for further information regarding HOS.
